“SheshNaag” – This is not about the king of serpents. This is about the longest ever goods train constructed by Indian Railways with 251-wagon-long-haul and of length 2.8 KM. The route on which SheshNaag operates is between Nagpur and Korba. This train is almost equal to four trains operating together. SheshNaag is powered by four sets of electric locomotives. After Super Anaconda, this is the next leap forward by South East Central Railway and an amazing achievement while Indian Railways are focusing on freight trains due to reduced movement of passenger trains in India owing to Covid-19 pandemic.

The freight trains hold a lot of importance in the current situation of crisis in India, because they play a major role in the movement of commodities such as food grains, vegetables, sugar, salt, edible oil, petroleum products, etc. Indian Railways have been trying hard to operate at full capacity and has reached a record number of 622 freight trains  for carrying essential goods during lockdown 1.0 (March-April 2020).

There has been remarkable milestones achieved by Indian Railways in 167 years, of which SheshNaag is a significant part and also, trial run of the same has been done, and it completed a route of 260 KM in six hours. In addition to this, another milestone achieved by Indian Railways is 100% punctuality recorded in the first week of July 2020.
