When it comes to earth moving operations, Backhoe Loader is the most demanded equipment in the construction industry. A backhoe loader is a combination of a backhoe, tractor and a loader. The backhoe tractor is designed in such a way that it allows the machine to move and perform in rough terrains. The tractor unit consists of cab unit, engine, transmission, and rugged tires. The loader is attached to the front of the tractor and works as a big scoop to move loose material like mud, rock, etc. from one place to another. The backhoe is mounted at the back of the tractor which serves as the main part of the backhoe loader. It is usually used to dig hard surface of the Earth, and also lifts the heavy load. With hydraulic oil, the backhoe is powered to move and operate to the best of its ability. While a used backhoe is always in demand because of its operation in construction, demolition, road construction etc., not many people opt for a new backhoe because of the inflated prices.
Before buying a used backhoe loader, certain things need to be checked. The things which you should inspect before buying are as follows-
1. Backhoe boom, stick and bucket
Scrutinize the machine visually for any leakage in the hydraulic system. The visual scrutinisation will help you find any wear and tear on the machine. After visually inspecting the bucket for any weld, crack, or missing tooth, check out the operational function of the backhoe by digging to the maximum level. You may also check the service record of the equipment for your surety.
2. Hydraulic system and engine
The hydraulic system is responsible for transmission of power to move most of the parts of a backhoe loader. Check the cylinders for any leaking point, dent or bend in the system for smooth functioning of the machine. These dents or bends acts as a major source of fluid leakage and entry point to dirt which contaminates the hydraulic fluid.
3. Tires, axle, universal joint and transmission
A backhoe loader is available in 3 types of the wheel drives 4x2, 4x4, and 4x4x4. All these wheel drives have different transmissions. Look underneath the backhoe loader for any damage to the universal joint, differential unit, and propeller shaft due to rocks or bumpy landscape. You can also check for any noise coming from drive shaft which indicates damage to a transmission line or gearbox. The treads on tires are proper to maintain the level of friction with the ground. Therefore there should not be any cut or damage to these treads.
Loader bucket, Bucket teethCheck for any re-welds, dents or joints in the bucket. Re-welds show that the repair work is done and dents indicate that equipment has been used beyond its limit. You can also check for any missing tooth, loose teeth or worn out teeth of the loader bucket. Check the functionality of loader bucket by operating it and hydraulics for its proper movement.
Inspecting the machine thoroughly before investing in it, is a strategic approach to buy a used backhoe loader. The inspection allows you to meet your needs for the equipment.
